West Islip High School is celebrating the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes after being named a School of Excellence by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.

The recognition highlights schools whose student-athletes demonstrate a strong commitment to academic success while participating in interscholastic athletics. To earn the School of Excellence designation, at least 75% of a school’s varsity teams must receive the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award.

Teams receiving the Scholar-Athlete Team Award must achieve an average grade point average of at least 90% among the top 75% of their roster, emphasizing the importance of academic achievement as part of the student-athlete experience. West Islip High School was among 237 schools across New York State recognized as a School of Excellence this year.

The honor reflects the collective efforts of West Islip High School’s student-athletes, coaches, teachers, administrators and families. Their commitment to maintaining high academic standards while competing in athletics exemplifies the school’s dedication to developing well-rounded students.
