West Islip Students Put Marketing Skills to the Test

Students at West Islip High School are putting their marketing knowledge to work through a hands-on project in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing class with Mr. Franzone.
As part of the course, students have been learning about the four Ps of marketing: product, placement, price and promotion. Now, they are applying those concepts to a real-world challenge: developing and marketing a brand-new product.
Working collaboratively in small groups, students are tasked with creating a product and developing a marketing strategy around it. Each team must consider what their product is, who it is designed for, how much it should cost, where it should be sold and how they would promote it to potential customers.
The project will culminate with each group delivering an elevator pitch to the class. Students will have a limited amount of time to present their product and convince their classmates that their idea has what it takes to succeed in the marketplace.
The activity gives students an opportunity to develop skills in creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking and problem solving while gaining a better understanding of how marketing concepts are used in the business world.
